Classy New Year's Eve Attire

1 |  2  |  3  |  4  |  5  |  6  |  7  |  8  |  9

1. Some say black is boring but this feather fringe dress is anything but. It's season-appropriate and adds just the right amount of elegant and fun detail for a night on the town. The footwear options for this dress are endless! If I were headed somewhere fancy this year, this dress would be at the top of my list!

2. Be a show-stopper in this red bow back gown. I love back detail on dresses, especially for women who have worked hard in the gym and want to show an elegant yet strong side. Red is gorgeous on nearly everyone this time of year.

3. A jeweled blush dress is the perfect way to add a little sparkle to your evening. This could easily be worn over and over again this winter and spring also.

4. The LBD is a staple in every classy woman's closet and no wardrobe would be complete without a strapless floor length gown, perfect for a variety of occasions, especially a formal NYE event!

5. For those who feel more comfortable with their legs covered (especially on a chilly evening), this black lace jumpsuit is an elegant option. Go monochromatic in all black or pull out some statement pumps with a pop of color.

6. For a house party or casual evening out (or in), a sweater dress and a pair of comfy riding boots are the perfect combo. This dress will get a lot of mileage-it's a chic staple with just the right amount of detail.

7. Blouses can create a wow factor just as much as a dress can. I love the detail on this jeweled tuxedo bib blouse for a dinner out and can be worn over and over again afterwards to the office or special function.

8. This beaded lace pencil skirt is definitely eye catching. The contrast of black and nude highlight the lace and is the perfect pairing with your favorite tank or blouse.

9. Get cozy in this blush hued embellished sweater. The perfect complement to a skirt or your favorite pair of black, light gray or winter white denim or pants.

10. Last but not least, this champagne lace number (not shown above) is another great neutral option to add sparkle to your evening.

Right now, one of my favorite classy women's apparel stores-Ann Taylor- is having their semi-annual sale. So, dresses and everything else on the Ann Taylor website is up to 40% OFF and all sale items are 60% OFF!Already found your perfect NYE outfit? Accessories, shoes, jeans, coats and everything else are part of the sale too. :)

How are you all doing? I hope you had a beautiful and memorable Christmas and are now enjoying the rest of the holiday season as these next few days lead up to the start of another year. Last year we took Lily out with us at 4 months old and she fell asleep ten minutes before the countdown which was awesome and let us enjoy the rest of the evening as we pushed her around in the stroller bassinet while watching the balloons drop and clinking flutes of sparkling white grape juice. It was a dressed up casual night and an excuse for me to put on a dress and feel festive in the midst of the demands as a new mommy. At 16 months old, she is now an active toddler on-the-go so our options are somewhat limited without a trusted babysitter (hard to come by, especially on Dec.31st!) So, this year we're going to ring in 2015 at a late local church service as we've done a few times in the past. I'm looking forward to all that this next year has to offer both personally and professionally. May each of you will be ringing in the New Year with those you love most! I hope these suggestions help you feel festive so you can ring in the near year looking your very best!

11. Backup Mobile Charger  |  12.  Eye Mask  |  13.  Perfume  |  14. Watch  |  15. Emergency Kit

1. Whether watching a movie on your tablet while en route, listening to music while waiting at the gate to board your plane or just want to unwind in your hotel room, a great set of quality headphones is a must! These stylish headphones are so much more comfortable for long term use than ear buds.

2. A durable and elegant weekender bag is the perfect companion for a weekend away or as your main bag of choice to carry all of your essentials. When investing in a great bag, I always think about what will be classic and timeless and of course I always choose quality materials such as leather like this croc duffle bag.

3. This Tory Burch Passport Holder is a no-brainer. It's such a lovely way to protect your passport and this gorgeous mint color with gold detail is seriously calling my name! So much easier to find too amid a sea of other dark colored items in your bag.

4. For cozy & comfortable travel attire that doesn't look frumpy or a relaxing outfit to lounge in at the hotel, this great cardigan & leggings lounge set is the perfect go-to and black will always cover up any dirt from a long day of travel.

5. It's time to ban the plastic bags as a way to sort clothing. These fabric cinched wash & wear bags are so much more chic and keep items organized so you know what's clean and dirty.

6. I love these chubby lipstick balms. They keep your lips hydrated during travel while adding a pop of color. This little travel pack-of-4 is a great way to experiment with new colors too! Gift them all to one gal or split them up and use them as stocking stuffers for a few

7. A great scarf not only provides a polished look but keep your neck free from drafts in airplanes, taxis or during inclimate weather. You can't go wrong with a classic Burberry check scarf.

8. Flats are a must-have when traveling whether rushing to catch a flight or walking for miles in a new city. These foldable Italian leather flats from Tieks are super comfy and can easily be swapped out for a dressier shoe and popped into a handbag while on-the-go. Did I mention they come in virtually every color and a lot of patterns too like leopard? An essential for travelers and commuters alike!

9. Every traveler needs a set of good quality luggage tags, not the cheap plastic ones that come apart after one use. These ID luggage tags (which come in a variety of colors) will allow her to easily spot her luggage even if it's amid a sea of other black bags. ;)

10. Even in the age of smartphones & tablets, sometimes it's nice to jot down some notes-directions, a restaurant address, some special memories on the way home from a dream trip or a place to doodle and write reminders of things that need to be done once home. I love these little pocket passport style notebooks, inexpensive and oh, so cute.

11. A backup battery pack for your phone is not only nice to have but an essential item when traveling. Too many times it's easy to look at photos, check social media and next thing you know your phone is nearly dead when you need it the most for a phone call. This girly backup mobile charger adds some fun flair while on-the-go especially when a wall or car charger isn't an option.

12. How adorable is this eyelash eye mask? A must-have for resting one's eyes while on a daytime flight or a catnap at the hotel while sharing a room with someone who needs to work or surf the net with the lights on.

13. Jo Malone cologne is known to be beautifully fragrant. They have some of the most amazing scented perfumes and travel candles. This one is a great earthy scent for the season in a perfect travel size.

14. Every lady needs a reliable and stylish watch whether she's headed to the office, to meet friends for lunch, running errands and especially while traveling, connecting flights and arriving on time. This Tory Burch watch is a timeless timepiece that won't go out of style and matches with virtually everything in your giftee's wardrobe.

15. How many times have we arrived somewhere to learn that a button has come off a favorite blouse, your nail suddenly chips while navigating in tight spaces on the plane or . This cute emergency kit which is actually a wedding day kit will cover all the mishaps along the way including earring backings, hairspray and a whole lot more. Perfect for every carry-on bag.

16. & 17.  Planning for a trip is half the fun! These NY Times 36 Hour Travel Guide books are the perfect gift for any world traveler who wants to see all the best sites with limited time! Here are two sets: Latin America & Asia as well as Europe/Canada/USA

I'm beginning this year's annual Holiday Gift Guide with some fabulous items for the jet-setter in your life! Maybe that person is you in which case, here's a list to give 'Santa' some hints of things that would make your travels more enjoyable. :)

After having traveled to 27 countries I've learned over the years what are essentials that I never leave home without and what will go unused, taking up valuable space in your luggage and carry-on. I'm still working on the art of packing lightly when it comes to clothing because I love to have options (it's a serious discipline, isn't it?!) I've put together a collage here of 15 practical yet stylish gift ideas for a fabulous lady in your life who loves to explore the globe (maybe your best friend who is always traveling for work, your mother who loves visiting Europe or your sister who has just realized her love of travel even if it means an out-of-state road trip.

Oh, and in case you or she are in need of some new wheels, this is some pretty grand and splurge-worthy luggage from Kate Spade!

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant Review

For those who have followed my blog for a while now, you know that I only use natural and organic products when it comes to my beauty and personal care routine. Anyone who has decided to nix the toxic stuff in favor of naturally-derived products knows that finding just the right deodorant can be quite the challenge. With so many different versions from rock crystals and sprays to gel roll-ons, stick deodorants to pastes, it's hard to know where to start and for me it was a process of trial and error.

I can quite honestly say that I've now tried dozens over the years and it's been frustrating for me since I live in hot and humid Florida. What might work in other cooler, drier climates (and did for me in the past when I lived in Toronto) just doesn't cut it for me here, especially not for a day outdoors or a workout. I've found if some of them do work, it's for a very limited time such as 4 hours. For me, a deodorant needs to work for a full work day for a duration of 8-12 hours. I was hopeful when I stumbled upon Schmidt's Natural Deodorant on Instagram. Their product caught my attention and I found myself reading reviews to see what others had to say. When I saw the rave reviews from others (in particular those who live in the same type of warm and sticky climate such as Texas) I knew I wanted to see if it could replace the ones I'm using now which I rotate between and sadly end up reapplying.

I was lucky enough to be able to try all of Schmidt's scents (5 different ones to be exact including fragrance-free). The scents offered are a relaxing Lavender-Sage, soft and soothing Ylang Ylang-Calendula, fresh and zingy Bergamot-Lime, earthy Cedarwood-Juniper and of course Fragrance-Free. Each fragrance is unique, my personal favorites are the Lavender-Sage and Ylang Ylang-Calendula. I love that only natural essential oils are used to scent their formulations. Most companies (even natural ones) still often contain "fragrance", "aroma", "parfum", etc., which are often not of natural origin and may contain hormone disruptors such as parabens and pthalates which are considered toxic and unsafe for long-term use.

The little glass jars come with a small plastic spatula that is used to spread a pea-sized amount into the palm of a clean hand, your own natural body heat begins to melt the product slightly and it's easy to spread with fingers onto each underarm as it's a paste. It may seem a bit different than a stick type application but it washes off easily with soap and water. Because Schmidt's is a deodorant and not an anti-perspirant, it doesn't block underarm pores with nasty chemicals such as aluminum which I most certainly do not want in my body. Their perfect formula left me feeling dry thanks to the arrowroot powder, not sticky.

Other deodorants I've tried in the past have been oily/greasy leaving stains (traditional stick deodorants always seem to leave white residue on clothing and tends to ball up like little sweater pills). Feeling sticky as if your underarms are never dry is another common issue with many natural deodorants. I loved how Schmidt's not only left me feeling dry and pleasantly scented while working around the house and running errands but also for more intense actives times such as chasing my little one around the playground or a gym workout. I've tested seeing how well it works overnight, during the day and during our warmest temps right now in December (85 degrees) and I have to say I'm really impressed because it continued to work for my 'must have' requirement of 8-12 hours. I found on average, 10 hours was how long it worked for me during a variety of activities which was perfect and on par with mainstream unnatural deodorants. The other thing I really noticed is that the natural ingredients left the skin under my arms very soft, even after just having immediately shaved. There was never a burning or irritated feeling.

I will definitely be adding Schmidt's Natural Deodorant to my personal care and beauty routine! The current deodorants I have in my medicine cabinet smell great but I have to reapply on hot days and one of them sometimes makes my underarms a bit itchy which is never a good thing! ;) Since deodorant is a product that we all use daily, it's important to find one without compromise. One of the reasons why I use natural products, especially deodorant in particular (besides my own health of course) is for my daughter Lily, when I became pregnant with her I really started to scrutinize every last ingredient, since as a nursing mother what is absorbed into my body also gets passed along to her via milk and of course is of particular importance for babies still growing in the womb. I also love that their products are vegan and cruelty-free (not tested on animals).

With a busy toddler these days, I'm a big fan of online shopping and was happy to learn that Schmidt's deodorant is not only available on their own website but also at Anthropologie as well as Urban Outfitters too, stores I frequent. :)

I love sharing a great products with friends and it's even better when there's a deal to be had Right now, Schmidt's is offering Classy Woman readers 15% off any order from their website! Use code: CLASSYSCHMIDTS at checkout.

His & Hers Watches (Cyber Monday Sale)

When I invest in accessories for my wardrobe one of the things I always consider is how often I'll use the item in question. For that reason I always spend a bit more on handbags, shoes, sunglasses and timepieces. Likewise, when buying gifts for others, I tend to gravitate towards things that I know the recipient will truly use often, I'm practical that way. ;)  Watches make a wonderful surprise under the tree for everyone from a significant other to mom, dad or even a sibling or very close friend. It's good to have a few different watches on rotation in your accessory wardrobe as no one watch will coordinate with every single outfit.

Today I'm sharing one of my favorite classy watch brands with you-Fossil! I've been wearing Fossil watches for over a decade and my husband now wears them too (thanks to me introducing him to them). We both love them for the same exact reasons-they're stylish, affordable and durable. It makes buying or gift giving hassle free as you know you're buying quality. They are currently running a Cyber Monday sale which ends Dec.8th for $25 off $150 OR $50 off of $200  which should show up automatically at checkout but you can use code: HOLIDAYTIME. In addition, they'll provide free shipping +free returns when purchasing from the Fossil website.

Paul and I had some fun selecting our favorites and compiled His & Hers Fossil watch picks for you. I personally tend to lean towards chronograph watches-I just think they provide a sophisticated look but I like to have a little bit of bling around the dial or on the face itself to add a bit of glam. My husband on the other hand likes the perfect mix of watches that are a bit sporty/casual but also work with a dressier outfit also. The photo at the very top is of our current favorite watches. White can be worn all year round so why not, right?

Hers (Top Left to Right): 1  //  2  //  3  //  4  //  5
His (Bottom Left to Right):   1  //  2  //  3  //  4  //  5

Here are a few more for you below along with the ones shown above including
this great watch set with every band color imaginable!

Which one here is your favorite for yourself or for the man in your life?

Manners Monday: Reaching for the Correct Bread Plate

We're beginning a fun, new little series here at The Classy Woman. Just in time for the holiday, I'll be delivering regular tips that will come in handy during the holidays and beyond.

Today's Holiday Etiquette Tip No.1 addresses the sometimes confusing bread place location. Have you ever wondered which one was yours and began using the wrong one in error? Avoid this table manner faux pas by using this quick and easy trick for remembering.

As we near Thanksgiving and the upcoming Christmas holidays, with more opportunities for dinner parties and the like, it's essential to know proper table manners. If you don't spend much time dining formally, it's a great way to remember and the perfect way to teach your children also!

I'd love to hear from you! Do you use this little trick to remember which bread plate is yours?

15 Elegant Thanksgiving Table Decor Ideas

Hi Everyone! First off, I apologize that it's been such a l-o-n-g time since I sat down to write a post here (with the exception of my last post sharing cozy & classy coats . The truth is that motherhood has kept me really busy, more so than I had ever anticipated, even with a totally awesome, laid back kiddo, this toddler stage of non-stop action has me pretty wiped out at the end of each day (which is typically when I used to write my posts). I knew I would have far less time for myself but had no idea what limited free moments I would actually have for some of the very things I enjoy most. I know all of your mamas can relate! More on that and other little updates in future posts, in the meantime let's talk about Thanksgiving, shall we?!

Every year about this time I begin getting really excited for the holidays. In Florida it's pretty hot year round but usually around early November it becomes much more bearable and the signs of Autumn start to surface. With it comes all of the cozy, warm goodness of things like pumpkin pie, comfy sweaters, crisp evening air, hot apple cider and so many more things I look forward to during this season. Since Thanksgiving is just a week away, it's the perfect time to get inspired with these 15 Thanksgiving place setting & table decorating ideas. They are my favorite images for a classy, modern yet fun holiday table. :)

I love the rustic look of tree trunk slices as chargers.
These beautiful wooden chargers would be perfect to recreate this look.
This acacia wood server is nearly identical for the center of the table. Most will not be dining outdoors for Thanksgiving but this same look can of course be re-created indoors also.
Add in a set of patterned napkins, some pillar candles, a striped runner, some pumpkins
and vintage goblets for a similar feel.

What gal doesn't love pink? I'm a huge fan of pink + gold together. Why not break away from the traditional orange and brown tones and go for something a bit unexpected?
Pumpkins make a great vase too and they're easy to paint or spray paint.
Gold chargers as well as gold flatware completes the look.

Could these rosemary sprig place cards be any cuter? Perfect mix of simple + elegant.

Gourds and squash make great vases for colorful flowers. These can be added to the
Thanksgiving tablescape down the center of the table or the
perfect accessory for an entry console or mantel.

Add a bit of femininity to the table with some lace which can easily be laid out over existing place mats for interest. If you're worried about them shifting, you can permanently affix them with spray adhesive or sew them on. These turquoise napkins are so pretty and would complement some
au naturel orange pumpkins as well as earthy brown tones very nicely.

Who says floral arrangements need to be expensive or complicated? Using inexpensive grocery store bouquets of mums, wheat, and a mix of other flowers, each vase can hold one type of flower, then a grouping can be arranged in the center of the table before guests.

Thanksgiving is all about celebrating and reminding ourselves how much we
have to be thankful for. Why not start the conversation in a fun way but incorporating some printable thankfulness cards for each guest to share with the table. You can find this printable here.

Black, white & gold are classic, timeless colors that can be used for a variety of occasions. What's great is any pieces you invest in such as gold flatware, can then be used for other special occasions such as Christmas. The polka dots add a modern and whimsical flair against the gold sprayed pine cone place card holder with feather are more traditional. This tablescape easily pairs with cream, white, browns, tan and any pop of color can be introduced also such as a gorgeous peacock blue, cobalt blue, red, hot pink or hunter green. These white + gold 'thankful' plates give a similar vibe.

Could creating a seating arrangement be any simpler with these pretty and simple
spray painted golden leaves? You could find these in your own backyard!

Living in Florida, I naturally gravitate to coastal decor, this is a perfect illustration of how to do it. A pop of pattern is essential by using a great runner or napkins as they did here. The turquoise is such a great color (I own a set of soft blue that I love mixing and matching with).

How is this for the easiest + least expensive place mat? This can be achieved with brown kraft paper & a sharpie. Every guest could be given a pen to write what they are most grateful for this year then take turns sharing with the table. This gets extra points for creating conversation and interaction.

These take away pie containers are a cute way to send guests home with some leftovers or perhaps just those who didn't leave room for dessert. To get this identical look, you'll need this free printable for the label +  these pie containers + and these color block wooden utensils are the perfect addition.

Click on any image below to be taken to the items to create these DIY boxes:

Speaking of pie, if you're looking to stray from your usual or traditional pumpkin pie recipe this year, this orange spice-coconut-pumpkin pie recipe looks divine!

This gorgeous bay leaf wreath caught my attention. I love how it includes all-natural elements and while it would be pretty on any door (or wall), it would also make a great a great accessory to wrap around an over-sized ivory pillar candle (or on a smaller scale for a series of them) running down the center of a longer, rectangular table. You could also do the same with a tall cylindrical vase filled with water and floating candles.

Here are a few pieces below that would be a lovely addition to your Thanksgiving Entertaining:

Whether you're hosting, visiting or enjoying a meal in someone else's home this year, no Thanksgiving would be complete without a little bit of a refresher and prep in the table setting and etiquette department. Take a peek at some of my previous posts if you're looking to brush up:

How are you planning to celebrate Thanksgiving this year? Whether you have a special longtime family tradition or you're hosting for the very first time, I'd love to hear what you have planned and which Thanksgiving ideas here best represent your personal sense of style!
