I am beyond thrilled to finally share with you all that Paul and I are expecting our first child this summer! :) We found out just before Christmas (it was the evening before we left for a cruise to be exact. It was challenging but I kept it a secret from hubby for a few days so he could be surprised on Christmas Eve during our trip-I loved his reaction.) We kept tight-lipped for a while and finally began sharing the news with our closest family at 6 weeks after it was officially confirmed by the doctor and then began telling our friends at about 12 weeks as I entered the 'safe' zone and got closer to the second trimester.

We heard baby Davis' heartbeat at 12 weeks and recorded it on my smart phone. My sniffles can be heard on the audio as I wiped away tears, I had dreamed for so long about what that day would be like. As baby's heart beat fast our hearts raced with joy and anticipation as we wait to meet our little one.

So far I've taken belly photos at 5, 9 ,12 and 14 weeks. I'm trying to take a new photo every 2 weeks now to document my progress sharing it via Facebook with my friends and family back home who I will not see during this time. I recently just turned 15 weeks and bought a much-needed DSLR camera so I'm excited to hopefully get some better quality photos than I had with my point and shoot camera. :)

{A pic of hubby & I on Christmas Eve when it was only us two that knew.}

In terms of my health, while I endured a bit of light morning sickness from weeks six to twelve, I've had really high energy since the beginning and have felt pretty great for the most part- I credit a big part of that to healthy eating, exercise and a fantastic whole food-based prenatal vitamin. I still fit into all of my clothes which is a plus as my belly growth has progressed slowly. I have purchased a few cute maternity items though for the coming months that I'm actually looking forward to wearing. ;)

{ This is a fairly recent photo of me taken at 12 weeks in our front hallway.}

I'm so grateful for all of you who follow along here at 'The Classy Woman' and always enjoy reading your comments and feedback. As I move into this new phase of my life in the coming months, you can still look forward to many of our regular posts as well as some new posts on etiquette, manners, fashion and more as it pertains to pregnancy and being a new mom which I know many of you will be able to relate to. As an interior decorator, I'm already working on the floor plan layout and nursery design schemes for each gender and I'll be sharing the finished space here with you all as well once it's complete. I'm really looking forward to sharing this journey with you all!

Any other pregnant mamas-to-be out there? When are you due? For all the moms out there-what was your favorite part of being pregnant? What month did you notice that your bump became really obvious? I look forward to hearing what you all have to say. :)

As always, thanks for reading!

XO

  1. I've been following you blog for some weeks now, but never took the time to thank you for brightening the day at my side of the ocean. But here I find myself writing a comment, because I'm feeling really happy for you.

    I hope you enjoy the little miracle growing and wish you both may grow in wisdom, energy and love needed to raise such a precious little gift. May God bless you in your new situation.

    Warm greetings from Holland,
    Janneke

    1. Thank you so much, Janneke! :) I loved reading your comment and I"m so glad that I can brighten your day with my posts.

      I really appreciate your well wishes, I feel so blessed already and I know everything will only get better and better.

      My mom's side of the family is from Holland, I am half Dutch. I visited in spring 2006 for the first time. Our favorite stop was the Keukenhof flower garden-stunningly beautiful! XO

  2. I am so happy for you. You are beginning a journey that will be more wonderful than you can ever imagine. Mine are all grown up and I miss those days so much. The best advice I ever received was " hold them as much as you can, because one day all too soon they will not want you to." There is also a website and book I wish had been around when I was a young mother. I"ll share it. I can't wait to be seeing your photos and updates! Big Congratulations to you both !!!

    1. Thank you so much, Leigh!! Such great advice, I'm watching my friends babes grow up so quickly and it is a great reminder to truly enjoy each moment-even the ones that involve crying. ;) I appreciate your sharing the website with me, I took a peek and they look like they have great, meaningful book topics. I'll definitely be sharing updates with everyone here. :)

    1. Yes, it really is, especially since we've been married for quite a while and many didn't expect it! I've come up with a couple creative ways to tell my in-laws in person and then again to announce to our friends/family that didn't already know via my personal FB page-it had been fun. :) I'll definitely be sharing those details. I've also had some recent requests from expecting friends/acquaintances to create some e-design nursery mood boards so I'll be sharing the finished looks of those also.

  5. Awe, yay!!! So exciting. With my first baby, it wasn't really obvious to the world until probably 20 weeks. I could obviously tell before then, but there wasn't much of a bump until then. With my second pregnancy (which was twins), I looked pregnant very quickly (because there were two of them and because it was my second pregnancy). My second pregnancy was complicated, but I really loved and enjoyed the first. I also love the delivery with all of them. It's just really special and exciting. I was never self conscious of my growing belly (and face, feet, etc.)...it just all felt really sweet and special. Definitely the best part of being pregnant is feeling the baby move. There is just nothing like it.

    1. Thank you, Sarah! :) It's funny to be in that awkward stage where you know you've pregnant but others don't always know and some just think it's weight gain, ;) I'm working with a Midwife after much research and I actually feel really confident about who will be surrounding me at the birth, my goal was to enjoy the delivery process and not dread it or have ill memories when looking back as many do. I'm looking forward to feeling the baby move for the first time, hopefully that will only be a few weeks away. Thanks for sharing about your experiences. :)

  9. Congratulations! I am so happy for you and your husband. With my first baby, I didn't start showing until about 7 months along. With the 3 that followed closely after that, it was more like 1-3 months of showing. I am currently expecting my 4th child, a boy, due the beginning of June. The best part of my pregnancies was feeling the baby move and playing with him/her through the side of my tummy. :) Other than that, I never really enjoyed being pregnant, but giving birth is pretty awesome. :)

    1. Thanks so much for your congrats, Tabitha! :) Wow-7 months along! My mom looked very much that way, always really tiny when pregnant with boy myself and my little brother. It will be interesting to see if my body reacts the same way. Congratulations to you also on your upcoming baby boy! How exciting. We are about 3 months apart-I'm due at the end of August just before my birthday. I'm really looking forward to the birth process and of course feeling the baby move and kick, hopefully sometime soon. ;)

  12. Congratulations! Such an exciting time and you are glowing! I recently had our first son on February 15th after 4 year of waiting and 3 rounds of invitro. I think there are a million amazing things about being pregnant: the moment you find out, the moment you hear the heartbeat for the first time, finding out the gender, feeling those first flutters, hiccups and kicks, seeing your little one via ultrasound when they start to look like a person instead of just a blob and picking out stuff for your little one but NOTHING can compare to the moment you lay eyes on your child and realize they are yours forever. Congrats and good luck as you embark on the most amazing journey of your life! Oh and PS, I thought I looked huge at 20 weeks but I think 26+ is when I really popped out.

    1. Thanks so much, Lauren!! :) Congratulations on the very recent birth of your son-how wonderful after waiting all this time! I'm so glad you could experience becoming a mother. I smiled big reading your comments, those are all the same moments I've been looking forward to, hearing the heartbeat was amazing. I simply cannot wait to lock eyes with our precious little one for the very first time-I can only imagine how awesome it will be. It's funny too, one week my belly will be bigger than the next week smaller. So far, I haven't gained any weight and thought something might be wrong but apparently it's pretty normal even for a couple more months yet. It lets me stay in my own clothes a bit longer so it works for me. ;) It will be interesting to see when mine finally pops. LOL.

  13. Well look at you! How cute. Congratulations!!

    My skinny daughter-in-law stuck out large and awkwardly with her pregnancies so people were prone to make remarks about it. One day she collected every remark said to her in a week and shared them with us. (She works in a hospital and sees lots of different people every day.) Some were funny, some rude, some annoying, some charming, and some were all of the above at the same time. Great fodder for a "manners" blog.

    1. Thank you, Paula! :) That is terrible how your daughter-in-law was treated. People can just be so cruel, thoughtless and insensitive sometimes. We're on the same wavelength, that is a post I've been wanting to write for many months but I feel it's more appropriate now that I'm experiencing pregnancy myself. This will definitely be an upcoming Manners Monday post along with a few other topics that I'm working on.

  18. EEEK! @Annicka B., I just read your sweet comment and accidentally hit remove comment instead of publish-sorry about that. :( I wasn't able to recover it. Thank you so much for your sweet words and congratulations on baby #2 for you if you're reading this! :) Looks like our due dates are just 4 days apart-I'm Aug.25th but like you I'm thinking it will also be early September, although my mother had both myself and my brother a month early so it's hard to say for sure.
